Exhibition
International Artists Exhibition (non-members)
This show is unique for CGS and features work by International Glass Artists ( mainly non-members). We wished to expand the knowledge and depth of Glass Art worldwide and share ideas and skill across an International platform, both with our members but also to artists and collectors further afield. It is possibly our most exciting exhibition yet and we were flooded with submissions from as far away as New Zealand, Japan and Canada. Selection was tough, but 44 glass artists have been selected for the show, we hope you enjoy this superb perspective of international glass and a big thank you to all those that applied.

Alena SinkovaCountry/Nationality: Czechemail: ala.art@hotmail.com tel: +44 7588211343 * Sheet glass, paint, enamels, sanblasting * 530 x 530 mm The panel consists of two layers of glass both of which are decorated with traditional glass paints and enamels. The opaque paint reflects slight whereas enamels illuminate from within the glass and thus encourage the depth of the design. This creates an impressive effect as the appearance of the design changes according to the light. The panel is part of a collection of pictures with a theme expressing influential cosmic energies. This is on-going project and my intention is to continue in the development of my technique in combination with sandblasting and engraving. I believe that this method of making helps me to capture my idea in the most sensitive way, which approaches the viewer’s feelings and perceptions.

Philippa Edwards and Sabin KechCountry/Nationality: NetherlandsMaterial; blown glass form, pigment, drawing 23x15x15cmKech Edwards is textile designer Sabin Kech (CH 1968) and visual artist Philippa Edwards (UK 1964).By exchanging and interweaving their ideas and skills Kech Edwards investigate the commonplace and play around with its purpose and effectiveness. Their objects which seem familiar at first glance, become ambiguous and difficult to place as a result of this interaction. With the series 'Shedding Light’ a fine layer of pigment is applied to the form in order to underline the object's presence. Kech Edwards has developed their own kind of 'hosiery' which has the surprising effect of accentuating the fragility of the material rather than functioning as a protection.

Title: 'Un coup de dès jamais n'abolira le hasard' (A Throw of the Dice will Never Abolish Chance)
Cast glass, engraved and red painted title inside the work; 2009.
The pattern in the base is mark of my thumbs pressing the clay, in the process of piece making.
The original French title is borrowed from the French symbolist poet, Stéphan Mallarmé.
I consider this interdisciplinary citation as well as a mark, the one of the European cultural heritage.
