Deirdre Finnerty is a contemporary glass artist from Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland and is currently studying an MA in Glass at the Swansea School of Glass, Swansea Metropolitan University. Previous to this, she completed a BA (Hons) degree in Architectural Glass in 2011 with a first class honours at the same school. She won third prize at the ‘Games’ exhibition in association with the British Society of Master Glass Painters and hosted by the Swansea School of Glass and she has exhibited work both nationally and internationally.
'Human Hands' is the most recent example of her traditional work which won third prize for the ‘Games’ exhibition currently showing at the National Waterfront Museum until the 23rd of September. A personal response to the craft and traditions of stained glass, and specifically designed for this significant exhibition in association with the Swansea School of Glass and the British Society, Deirdre’s panel is exhibited alongside nationally recognised professionals in the medium of glass. This panel was designed in an honest, passionate and meaningful way, perhaps influenced by her recent study trip to Cologne and the German use of semi-opaque antique glass.
