The facination that glass is silica just amazes me. I started glass working in the early 80's after trying various
other media. Etching's and carving across South Africa, Working with both corporate and interior designers.I moved to Hogsback SA and built a furnass and Kiln. The fascination began.
Flameworking has allowed me to express my love for nature through a completely different form.
It was the contemplation of old stained glass – masterpieces of craftsmanship and spiritual beauty – that stimulated my curiosity and desires to the point of abandoning my old life and embracing a new career. However, it is the contemporary approach to the craft, with the aid of modern technology, methods and processes, that breathes life into new exciting opportunities
Katrina Beattie graduated from University for Creative Arts in Farnham in 1995. She currently runs a studio in Somerset specializing in Blown and Kiln Formed Glass. Katrina teaches at West Dean College near Chichester and is an active member of The Sussex Guild of Craftsmen whose shop is based in Lewes, East Sussex.
