My work is deeply influenced by our human connection to the land. Living in the far north, I explore that which resonates with our soul. My delicate sculptures allow the viewer to draw asscociations with their own remembered landscapes, resulting in a medatative and emotional response. They become an interpretation of light and memory and a place for quiet contemplation.
Gillian set up the Strawberry Glass studio in 2008 and undertakes commissions as well as running a busy programme of workshops.
In 2012, having taught Art and D&T for 15yrs, I decided to change direction and focus on my own creativity. I have worked with ceramics for 20yrs but only in the last 2yrs started to develop my skills with glass. I am interested in combining materials and craft skills.
Glass is a material which allows me to exploit the aesthetic potential of Light. Minimal structures, support simple arrangements of glass, which interact with light to create complex kinetic patterns of light and shade. My work aims to reveal the wonder and true magic of the phenomenon of light.
