Suitable for improvers and advanced*
This technique-based, two day course follows on from the introductory level, looking at more complex materials and processes of hot glass working. A must for anyone who wants to make a living from fused glass.
The first day covers mould making and multi layering to create three-dimensional shapes and slabs in glass. Work with enamels, gold andPlatinum lustres, and copper oxide to create colours, metallic effects and bubbles. You will receive in-depth tuition on the firing cycles for fusing and slumping different types of glass.
The second day covers texture and relief in glass using ceraboard, plaster and fibre blanket.
Also included is an overview of casting using frits, inclusions and the Patte de Verre technique.
This course is run by the enthusiastic Jenny Barker, who, not only teaches at Wrexham University, but also runs a successful glass design company.
It is held at our fully equipped studio at 32 Wellington Park, Dunes Way, Liverpool L5 9RJ.
This course has a maximum of only 4 delegates, giving plenty of opportunity to ask questions whilst looking to other delegates for inspiration & ideas.
You will only need to bring a sturdy pair of shoes, as all materials, glass, tools and safety equipment are provided. We also supply refreshments on site and lunch is included at a nearby café.
Students must have completed the basic fusing course before signing up for this course, or have prior glass cutting and fusing experience. Unfortunately the packed schedule does not allow for a recap of the basics.
