Introduction to Glass Fusing with Enamels
What will I learn?
Steve Robinson is an award-winning glass artist. He is one of only a few professional glass artists choosing to work with enamel powders to colour the glass (as opposed to using pre-coloured glass). He has developed his own techniques for working with these enamels, creating unique patterns and effects, with vibrant colours and bubbly textures Steve will share these techniques with you, and take you step-by-step through the glass-fusing process so that you can create your own unique piece of fused glass art.
Whats the plan for the day?
Registration and coffee will be from 9.00am to allow everyone to get aquainted. The day proper will commence at 9.30am when after a health & safety briefing, the morning will be spent with Steve demonstrating the techniques he uses, from preparing the glass to applying the enamels, through to assembling the piece ready for the kiln. Then there will be a visit to a local beautyspot to gain inspiration for your own piece, and a break for lunch. Upon return to the Studio you will then have the rest of the afternoon until 5pm to make your own piece, with Steve providing as much personal assistance as you need.
Who else will be there?
Places will be strictly limited to five per day to allow everyone ample access to Steve’s expertise.
What can I take home with me?
You will be making your own unique glass wall-hanging or splashback, to a maximum size of 30cm x 60cm. You can create any design that you wish, taking inspiration from our coastal surroundings or you can bring some ideas with you. You will also make some smaller sample pieces which you can keep. Your pieces will be fired in the kiln the same day, and will then be ready for you to collect by Midday the following day (or we can send it to you via courier for an additional charge if you are not able to collect in person).
Whats the cost?
The cost of each place is £250. This must be paid in full to secure your place. We accept payment by credit/debit card over the phone, by cheque or by bank transfer.
What does the cost include?
The all-inclusive cost covers your tuition, all materials that you will be using, protective mask and apron, light lunch and refreshments, transport to and from the lunch/inspiration location, the item you make to take home, and fixings with which to hang it.
