“Beauty and Content: Why stained glass is needed today and tomorrow” with Mark Angus -Wed 25th September at 7.30pm.
In this illustrated talk Mark will paint the picture of what drew him towards architectural stained glass, and how these values have both informed his career, and point the way into the future.
Medieval stained glass was full of stories, narratives, and these have served a cultural purpose and met a need to the present day. Of course the beauty of coloured glass, its magic, the spiritual quality of coloured light, is another of the pulls. These two, when combined, are the qualities that Mark aspires to in his work, and which he believes society again needs today. Young glass artists, Mark asserts, can find a market, and continue to satisfy this need in our society.
These ideas will be the main threads of the talk, which Mark will illustrate with examples from his artwork.
