Catherine Keenan’s fascination with hot glass began while studying at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, graduating in 2006. At the International Glass Centre, West Midlands she specialised in glass blowing techniques of colour application and refined cold working processes; in particular carved lens patterns. Her work is mainly concerned with processes of colour overlay, cup-casing and cane techniques.
I am preoccupied by colour and pattern. I explore and express this fascination in blown glass by experimenting with various techniques, and observing the subtle possibilities offered by each choice in the making process. The physical rhythm required to work with molten glass is what I fell in love with and what I continue to improve on.
I want my pieces to be bold in their simplicity, to belie the complexity of their construction.
