Blown Glass Drawing In Red
Photographer: Photo : Sylvain Deleu
Details: Blown Glass
Over the past five years I have developed several glass drawing techniques that stemmed from transferring the language of a two dimensional line drawing on paper into three-dimensional sculptures. The Blown Glass Drawings are created in the Hot Shop. Each drawing is created in the moment, allowing feeling to be expressed through gesture and form to emerge from the material.

La Grande Guerre
Photographer: JanHein van Stiphout
Details: Installation: 1568 Poppies made entirely of glass; soil; iron; barbed wire; soundtrack. 12m²
‘La Grande Guerre’ is an installation to memorialize the end of the 1st World War:
1,568 poppies, one for every day of the war, in a bomb crater of black soil
with the soft chirping of meadow birds in the background to accentuate the silence.
Contradiction is a recurring theme in my work and this installation is no exception.
After the deafening violence of war comes silence.
After the blood of the soldiers come the poppies that color the fields red.
After the destruction and misery come peace and rebuilding.
After 100 years, the horrors of this war still bring tears to our eyes.
Nature, on the other hand, seized the opportunity right away to roll
out a beautiful carpet of flowers within a year.
A huge contradiction.

Traditional dioramas sought to imitate nature and thereby instil the viewer with a reverence to its beauty and grandeur by offering a glimpse into the vastness and spectacular nature of the world. Casual Bystanders V
Details: NFS
The use of mixed media has been part of my work for many years and while glass is my main working media I like bringing it together with other materials to give the work a sculptural depth. I have also found that using a combination of materials strengthens the narrative in my work.
The staffs are there to give these pieces a sense of surreal theatre. I am using the title Casual Bystanders in an ironic and somewhat sarcastic way. By having the figures standing passively with blank expressions I suggest that there are elements within our society and political elite who are blind to the growing problems in society and stand casually by as these problems grow.

"Geode of fire" is my first completely red piece. Made in November 2018. The colour came out a lovely deep red. Whenever I use metal on the outside of my work. I think it looks very similar to natural geode's. I have also used metal inclusions in this piece to enhance the depth and to gain desired reactions.

Tree of Jesse - The Blood Line of Jesus
Photographer: Melanie Ehsan
Details: Stained glass window, Glasgow Cathedral 2018
The Tree growing from the stump (Jesse) is the Israelite nation and includes the green shoot or ‘rod’, the line of Christ. The tree grows up and across, filling the window with lush growth. Red represents the redeeming sacrifice of Christ. It represents God reaching down to mankind and making a way for us to know Him, whoever we are and wherever we come from. This makes it possible for other ‘trees’, which are not descended from Israel, to reach up and become grafted into the whole.

Diorama - Born of Fire
Photographer: Ester Segarra
Details: Kiln formed glass with dichroic
Traditional dioramas sought to imitate nature and thereby instil the viewer with a reverence to its beauty and grandeur by offering a glimpse into the vastness and spectacular nature of the world. They were also used to illustrate an environment before changes were made to it due to the impact of human involvement.

Red Flower Vessel

I made this red vessel experimenting with the pâte de verre technique. I do not use a mold, I model the paste of glass. In a second fire I gave it the details with liquid gold. Nature always inspires me with its round forms and in this case, with an extraordinary colour.

Light and Shadow
Details: Float glass, fused and slumped, 30 cm x 40 cm x 12 cm
Our world consist of light and shadow, which are in a dependent relationship and do not
exist one without each other. Red colour has a very similar features in a symbolic way.
It is colour of love, of strong passion, but at the same time it represents also blood and
death.

Details: Mouth-blown flashed glass, sand-etched, fire-poilished and kiln formed.
The design for this bowl is based on text from The Red Book of Hergest which lays out the stories of the Mabinogion.
I am drawn to manuscript for the personal link it gives us with stories and accounts from the past, how the hand of the (anonymous) scribe is present at all times, and has a poetic beauty and elegance of its own.

Geode of fire
Photographer: Irregular Glass
Details: Sand casted glass work. 3.5 inches length, 3.5 inches width, 2 inches depth. Red glass with metal inclusions.
