“Patterns: Composition and Design” Launched on 2nd September 2024

Live – 2nd September 4th November

“A pattern is an arrangement of lines or shapes, especially a design in which the same shape is repeated at regular intervals over a surface. Patterns exist all around us. We can find a pattern in the trees, in passing cars, ice crystals, in our thought processes or in our clothes. A pattern is also an arithmetic sequence, regularity in the world, in human-made design or in abstract ideas.”

What does pattern mean to CGS glass artists. And how do they express it in their work – see their compositions.

54 CGS members share their work with us.

Contact info@cgs.org.uk if you have any questions about the show or participation in shows.

Title:Sagano vases

Description: These vessels are named after the bamboo forests in Sagano, Kyoto, which is reflected in the colour, form and pattern of the pieces. The forms of the vessels echo the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, the beauty of imperfection, with distorted, overlapping rims. The internal engraving technique creates light and texture where bubbles are trapped between the layers of glass.

Title: Ammonite: Hidden Secrets - Reach for the Light

Description: There is something totally fascinating about ammonite forms and their journey through history. Ammonites lie buried for millennia only to reappear in a form that is a ghostly echo of their original forms. This piece addresses this return by imagining the thousands of seasons that they have lain dormant in the rock, now land based rather than part of the evolutionary seascape. I am fascinated by patterns and like to create them out of the disorder of life.
