Carol Bayada

Carol is an artist who crafts three-dimensional pictures in glass. Her work concerns issues around girlhood, femininity and growing up. She has studied at Central St Martins (University of the Arts) but her interest in glass started at Richmond Adult Education College (RHACC). Her work has been exhibited in group shows including The Ragged School Museum, Morley Gallery, Pyramid Gallery; also with the Just Glass Society at ‘The Trail of Glass’, London Glassblowing, The Stables at Orleans House, House, Espacio Gallery, and; the International Festival of Glass (British Glass Biennale).

My process involves a range of techniques that serve the purpose of the work e.g. modelling in wax, mold-making through a lost-wax process, casting, printing and painting on glass, cold-working, engraving as well as stained glass techniques. Some of my pieces refer to key archetypes from feminine psychology and mythology – each containing a model of a doll (‘the Girl’) that I have kept since childhood. I devise scenes with my doll that allow me to laugh at myself, provide comfort, or recollect memories.
