Introduction to Stained Glass Painting
This in-person workshop takes place in Falkirk, Scotland at Studio 164 from 10am – 12.30pm on Sunday 4th May 2025.
Price includes tuition, use of tools, materials, and tea/coffee/snacks
Suitable for adults and aged 16+
This workshop will introduce you to working with kiln-fired enamels, both on flat and three-dimensional glass surfaces to showcase its ease at applying permanent colour into a piece. We will cover hand-painting with various brushes, screen-printing with different imagery as well as other mark making. You will have the opportunity to make a few different finished pieces, or if you prefer, a selection of samples. Rachel will also cover how enamels can be used in conjunction with other kiln-forming techniques, how they are fired and any other technical troubleshooting that is of interest, including how to use them in different projects.
This experience is suitable for all levels of experience and confidence in making. Pre-cast shapes and pieces of glass will be available to apply enamel onto, to allow you to focus on that. All tools and materials are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own things if you would like to know if they are suitable. If you are inclined to be messy, you might like to bring your own apron too, but all enamel is pre-mixed with water friendly medium so doesn’t stain or need anything specific to remove from clothes or skin. They are also all lead and heavy metal free.
If you would like to extend your learning, Rachel will be teaching an afternoon workshop the same day on micro-casting using the Freeze and Fuse method.
All your pieces will be fired and posted back out to you. Postage is included in the workshop fee.
If you have any questions at all about the workshop, please contact Rachel directly by email.
