Cheryl Steventon

Cheryl is a glass artist with over 10 years' experience. She creates characterful glass and stone sculptures and fused glass homewards and jewellery which are heavily influenced by her upbringing in Cornwall. Her work is sought after by a loyal customer base in the UK as well as further afield in Canada, America and Australia.

Although I now live in Warwickshire my work is still strongly influenced by my childhood in Cornwall pottering about on fishing boats, playing on the beach and walking on the moors.

I have small children and enjoy seeing the world through their eyes where no detail is missed and the seemingly mundane can be fascinating and the beginning of a story. I keep my houses and cottages intentionally simple in order to free the imagination and allow the pieces to evoke the viewers own memories and experiences.

As well as a passion for glass I have always been fascinated by the variety of textures, shapes and colours in natural stones as well as their tactile nature. Using them in my work makes each piece individual and challenges me to work with their unique characteristics. They are a never ending source of inspiration.

I am largely self taught which frees me to experiment with new techniques. Each piece can go through up to 10 different processes from traditional copper foil work and soldering or fusing, to freehand engraving and adding fabrics and other materials before it is finished.
