Galia Amsel is a contemporary New Zealand glass artist. She was born in London in 1967 and graduated with first class honours in ceramics and glass from Middlesex Polytechnic in 1989. She then attended the Royal College of Art in London. By the time of her immigration to New Zealand in 2003, Amsel was already highly acclaimed in her field.
"My ideas are based around capturing moments... in movement and rhythm and exploring tension and balance. By working the surface textures and manipulating the use of colour, glass becomes the perfect medium for bringing my forms to life by the variety of ways it can capture and transmit light. My natural environment inspires me with the resolution of my sculptures."
"My talk will take an overview of the almost 40 years since I first became fascinated with glass as a material on my art foundation course, and how events along the way have developed how the moments are captured from the physical to emotional and the variety of making techniques I have explored to express this. It will also include projects where I have stepped out side my ‘comfort zone” with more large scale installation work and experimental pieces."
ALL ZOOM LOG IN DETAILS WILL HAVE BEEN SENT TO YOU IN YOUR E-BULLETIN.
NON-MEMBERS: You can still join, or sign up later and listen to the live talk at your leisure.
