Micro-casting with Glass using Freeze & Fuze Workshop
This in-person workshop takes place in Falkirk, Scotland at Studio 164 from 1.30pm – 4pm on Sunday 4th May 2025.
Price includes tuition, use of tools, materials, and tea/coffee/snacks
Suitable for adults and aged 16+
During this workshop you will learn how to make 3D pieces of glass using the Freeze and Fuse method, which uses glass powder and rubber moulds to capture intricate details. Rachel will guide you to make a handful of colourful cast glass pieces from the myriad of moulds available, whilst learning the technical considerations of this technique. She’ll also cover what you could do with these pieces, from basic finishing into jewellery or as greeting card toppers, adding to larger fused glass projects or embedding into mosaic projects, and more.
This experience is suitable for all levels of experience and confidence in making. There is no cutting or sharp things involved as we sedately poke glass powder into place. All tools and materials are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own things if you would like to know if they are suitable. There will be times when dust masks are mandatory and whilst we will provide disposable ones, if you have your own respirator, you are welcome to bring it. Likewise, if having your mouth and nose covered causes any anxiety, this is something in the class that can be worked around, so just get in touch to discuss.
If you would like to extend your learning, Rachel will be teaching a morning workshop the same day on glass enamels which will have some pre-made freeze and fuse pieces for painting.
All your pieces will be fired and posted back out to you. Postage is included in the workshop fee.
If you have any questions at all about the workshop, please contact Rachel directly by email.
