Rebecca Arday – From Life: Casting with Alginate – 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th July 2026
This is a live online class, taught over Zoom.
Learn to use alginate, an eco-friendly, affordable mould-making material, to create sculptural glass castings from life. Rebecca will demonstrate hand casting with the bucket method and face casting with the lay-up technique. You’ll create wax positives, refine them, and cast them into glass using a plaster-silica refractory mould.
Course price: £190.00
Learn to use alginate, a seaweed based, eco-friendly, skin-safe, economical mold making material, to create sculptural glass castings from life. Two styles of molds will be demonstrated: a bucket mold where the model is submerged (i.e., a hand), and a lay-up mold, where alginate is painted on and reinforced with plaster bandage (i.e., the face).
Alginate molds will then be used for creation of wax positives which can be manipulated if desired and ultimately cast into glass in a plaster-silica refractory mold. The course will cover the process from start to finish.
