Sculptural Slumping Masterclass Part 1

Lisa Pettibone, Surrey GU5 9LL
2-4 October 3-4 students, £425
This course is aimed at intermediate/experienced kiln-formed glassmakers exploring a variety of ways to control movement in the kiln with a variety of props and programming techniques. Students with minimal or no slumping experience will gain insights into novel glass forming processes. We’ll achieve this through a series of demos, visual presentations (explaining my own processes and other artists work) and two making projects. There will be creative prompts to investigate their sculptural ideas and why movement is so important in their work.

Working with both float and Bullseye glass, three kiln prop-making techniques will be explained so you can learn how to make your own: ceramic slip cast props (like store bought slumpers but your own design); hardened fibre blanket forms; moulded or carved refractory props. Extensive course notes with sample firing programs are provided along with all mould-making materials – students bring their own glass. Please email Lisa if you have further queries.

Lisa has been teaching kiln formed glass techniques for over 20 years at venues such as The Glass Hub in Somerset, the international Festival of Glass and Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, USA. She has a BA in Glass from University of the Creative Arts Farnham and an MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins London. She has exhibited in the UK and internationally and is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.
