Form & Function

Form & Function invites artists to explore how appearance and purpose inform one another. The exhibition aims to discuss where beauty meets utility: how vessels, objects, or functional forms can also carry emotion, narrative, or atmosphere. Artists are encouraged to consider how craftsmanship, material understanding, and intention converge in their work, and to submit pieces that either embrace functionality, question it, or expand it’s possibilities.

Thousands of discrete glass elements form a lattice of translucent and opaque layers—each line bending in quiet dialogue with the vessel’s curve. Title:Deep Waters

Description: Inspired by the shimmering waters, the layers of handcut coloured and dichroic glass, represent waves of the ocean, views I enjoyed in the Maldives. This is the first, and currently only, square dish form. I am pleased and plan to make more in varying colours and layouts. This highly smooth form looks stunning with beams of light playing on the surface detail, or casting colourful shadows.

Title:Loaf Pan

Description: The name "Loaf Pan" plays with the idea of utility because I never meant the piece to be useful for baking banana bread or meatloaf. It was use-full to me, though, because it contained possibilities for experimenting with transparency and elasticity. It is useful to the viewer for thinking about those things, too—and perhaps the utility of looking itself.

Title:Real Leather (Old Bags Series)

Description: ‘Old bag’ is a grim UK phrase for older women. This is my tongue-in-cheek attempt to reclaim it and reflect on how women are seen post-50. It becomes a way to show the gap between our real abilities and how society misreads us. The painted glass self-portrait sits alongside items that symbolise things in my life - for instance a Faber-Castell F pencil represents my life as an artist.

Each shape, somewhat unsettling yet somewhat reassuring, clings to our domestic spaces like an organism floating outside its environment, seeking companionship. Title:Scary face

Description: Scary face is an art object composed of simple geometric forms enhanced with diamond-cut elements. I explore how minimalist shapes can visualize emotions—subconscious fears, uncertainty, and instability. The object has no functional purpose and raises the eternal question: what is more important—form or function? In this case, materiality outweighs utility.

Description: The Vestige adopts the form of a jar, a vessel traditionally defined by its function of containment, to question how existence and identity are formed. Constructed from tac-fused glass frits, the jar is structurally incapable of holding anything. Despite this loss of utility, the object is still immediately perceived as a jar, leaving only a fragile form that occupies space.

Title:Wild Optics Drop III

Description: What's the importance of function in an art piece? When does a vessel become a sculpture? This piece has a drop shape with a narrow neck, to me it's a sculptural shape rather than a vase. The piece is blown using a special technique to create a deep and irregular optical effect. The neck of the piece is hand cut. It was created with the crafters at Kosta glassworks, in cooperation with Kosta Boda.
