Anthony McCabe

I studied on an MA in 'Applied Art and Design' at Wolverhampton University in 2015-2017 where I specialised in Hot glass. My work is influenced from the shape of the 'Amphora', a form known by the Romans and before them the people of Mesopotamia (now Iran/Iraq/Jordan) an area that caught my imagination from a guided visit to the British Museum's Middle Eastern Section. It was explained how Mesopotamia helped found many things which are the basis of Western civilization. They developed the first laws and rules of mathematics, counted in base sixty, which reflects in how we count time and use the rules of geometry, they built the first cities set to a plan, helping move people from a nomadic to a settled existance. Importantly they cultivated the first crops, developed irrigation systems and selected the most fertile seeds enabling more people to be fed. In many ways they were the start of things!
