Current Exhibition

Collaboration: Earth/ Sea/ Sky – Launched on 4th July

We challenged our members to create work that is a celebration of the natural world in which we live – EARTH/ SEA/ SKY.

This response could take the form of:

· Combining different glass making techniques to create a new piece of glass work.

· Collaborating with another member who uses a different glass technique to create a joint piece of work.

· Combining different materials or found objects to create a new piece of glass work. (At least 50% must be glass.)

· Collaborating with another artist from a different discipline to create a joint piece of work in different materials. (At least 50% must be glass.)

(This exhibition features work that is not included in the London Glassblowing exhibition of the same name.)

4th July – 29th August

Launched on:27th June 2022

Title:Beyond the sky II

Description: The universe always evokes my curiosity. How would it be formed? This question fascinates me when materials are being shaped and colored. The process of imagining beyond the landscape and at the same time capturing the moments of reaction between materials evokes the feeling of showing a huge cosmos through a small lens, as if microscopically replacing a macro object with an object in front of us.

Title:Nature Trail

Description: Over many years I have collected lovely, delicate found objects from an island nature reserve off Helsinki, and used them for mono printing in oil paint. Now I can scan, alter and laser print these very finely detailed prints onto paper, which I transform again (by adding glazes and removing paper) into translucent transfer images for my unique glass art.

Title:Clouds

Description: “Clouds” is an installation inspired by the skies of the Dutch Masters painters. The colours of the elements closely resemble the sky just before rainfall or the threatening thunderclouds. The softness and lightness are a central principle where the hues interact and change from blues to soft greys. Each unique cloud connects to nature, empowering us to look after it.

Title:Cliffhanger

Description: This piece is inspired by the wild coast of my natal Brittany, France. A reminiscence of winter coastal walks with wild waves hitting the rocks. This vessel was made using the drop-out technique when the fused glass stretches through a ring mould to achieve its 3D shape. Crushed glass has been partially fused on top to add 'rocky' texture and tactile dimension to the vessel.

By contrast, the pieces here have been carefully shaped, wrapped and soldered together to create a 3-D representation of a serene lily pond.

Title:Sprouting Vessels

Description: These pieces combine metal and glass, as well as different glass-forming techniques. They are also an expression of my growing interest in hybridity of form - the vessels combine the natural forms of plant bulbs in pate de verre, with the suggestion of fungal or mossy growth patterns created from copper.

Title:Pause

Description: ‘Pause’ is a work focused on the circulation of glass.
I focused on the purest and most fundamental part of the glass.
First, the liquid glass in the melting furnace was rolled into a pipe to breathe life into it, and then the glass was put back into the kiln for casting.
I want to give the viewer time to think about the continuous process of glass.
