Emma Varga

Emma Varga was born in Yugoslavia in 1952, graduated from University of Applied Arts in Belgrade. Moved to Australia in 1995, continuing to creating glass art as a freelance artist. Participated in over 100 benchmark international exhibitions and staged over 30 solo exhibitions. Her work is represented in Museums collections worldwide. Major awards: - Australia Council Grants for New Work in 2006 and 2012 ( - Stephen Procter Fellowship (ANU Canberra) in 2017 - Arctic Circle Artist Residency in 2017 - Creative NSW Grant for 4 50th Anniversary exhibitions Emma developed two innovative glass art creating methods: - Multiple layers fusing, which enables creating controlled 3-dimensional images within a slab of glass. - and her own distinctive method within Pâte de Verre technique, which lends itself to implement the notion of fragility. She has been invited to Glass Centers worldwide to demonstrating and teaching her methods, in past two decades.

Her 53 years long career culminated in 3 major retrospective exhibitions:
– at Wagga Wagga Art Glass Gallery, home of National Glass Collection, in December 2023 – March 2024
– at Chasen Gallery at the Mark in Sarasota, FL, January 2024
– at Sabbia Gallery in Sydney, Australia, in May – June 2025
