Anneliese Butcher

I am a fused glass artist working in a small studio workshop in Nottinghamshire. Inspiration is taken from the natural world and human activity. I produce wall pieces, decorative decor and small architectural panels; commissions are welcome. Undertaking a BA (Hons) Decorative Arts degree at Nottingham Trent University has enabled me to learn and develop new techniques and apply a disciplined and refined approach to my kiln-working.

I am interested in the relationship between us and the natural world – the way the earth records our presence, evidence we leave behind as we come and go. My influences are colour, form, pattern and textures of the earth and an anthropological view of art as an expression of life and existence. My most recent work presents a reminder that we humans are responsible for what happens in our seas and oceans, an alien world which is often out of our everyday range, yet is so vitally important for our lives. The work seeks to celebrate the glorious vividness of this underwater world which is slowly being destroyed by our carelessness.
