New Artists and reviews
Ian and I have an amazing studio just out side Poole in Dorset and we regularly take part in Dorset Art weeks and Purbeck Art Weeks opening our Studio to the public. This year I will be demonstrating the art of making Lampwork beads at a variety of venues, which we often incorporate into our unique jewellery.
We have been lucky enough to have our Glass and metal Garden Sculptures displayed at Chelsea Flower Show in the Glass Garden which is curated by fellow CGS member Gabrielle Argent and also as part of the Sculpture exhibition at the Sussex Prairie Gardens. We have held our first ever Solo exhibitions in Upton Country Park in Upton, Poole, and at Walford Mill in Wimborne. Both very successful events.
We are working on new pieces at the moment getting ready for this Years events and Open Studio.
Starting simply – a glass lid for turned hollow form. Next project (underway) is a hollow wooden lantern with glass panels.
As well as creating unique handmade glass art inspired by science, nature, and the patterns and textures that we see around us in every day life, I love to share my passion for glass by teaching others – from small workshops in my studio, to larger groups in schools, communities and other venues.
Since the 2nd place Design prize awarded for my first ever Stained Glass windowed – at the prestigious Worshipful Company of Glaziers annual Stevens Competition, in 2022 I have continued with some stained glass pieces, alongside fused glass and watercolours. I have shifted my focus further towards involvement in sustaining Endangered Heritage Crafts. Stained Glass now occupies the unenviable position on this list.
Drawing on extensive research for previous works and submissions, this worrying situation and my wider background in real sustainability, I have been moved to “take action myself”….. to this end I am now currently working on a long held desire to curate an exhibition showcasing handmade crafts using various natural materials, some of which are now endangered crafts. I will be providing the Stained and Fused Glass input at the exhibition which is planned for early Feb to early April 2027. ( the first available date in the Maidstone Museums busy schedule ). Further details will follow in due course. Prior to this, my most recent works have been glass garden sculptures which have been exhibited at The RHS Chelsea Flower Show in International Year of Glass 2022, and The Sussex Prairie Garden 2023, in a sculpture trail curated by Gaby Argent. The latter work comprised three glass ‘Windows on the World’ mounted in a bespoke rustic oak frame, secured in metal stand to my design specifications. This piece was subsequently exhibited at the first ever sculpture trail at Monkton’s Nature Reserve, Kent 2024 ( where all works were made from sustainable, natural materials ). My piece was selected to showcase the exhibition, featuring in the Ramsgate Recorder with articles about the sculpture trail artists/artworks and the wider nature reserves community, educational and outreach work
