“In every piece of glasswork I do, drawing always comes first”
Glass gives my illustrative work an almost magical dimension
A strong sense of line is important together with the play on silhouette shape, shadows
and light
I enjoy ‘hiding’ imagery in my drawings, encouraging you to look more closely

Glass Botanicals

Having always been a gardener at heart, my art is a fusion of two passions – the organic beauty of gardening and the technical craft of kiln forming glass. For a hard, immovable medium you can achieve the impression of movement and texture, both actual and implied, making it irresistibly tactile and interactive. Each piece is a glass bloom or arrangement designed to reflect the vibrant life of a real garden. Full of the natural, beautiful imperfections of nature.
Using several firings with different schedules and using glass powders along with sheet glass and frits, it is possible to give a natural, delicate curl to the edge of each petal.
I am continuing my explorations into the world of botanical art, in particular flower arrangements.

Falkenberg, Eva

My current practice involves the use of techniques of stained glass, glass blowing and cold working. Part of my inspiration comes from the working process with material that allows me to embody my ideas through layers, color and light. I am drawn to the qualities of glass as a medium that offers me an almost unlimited number of ways to express myself as an artist. It can be shaped both hot and cold using a wide range of traditional and experimental methods.
My work is strongly influenced by nature and the various cultures I have been fortunate enough to immerse myself in. I am interested in how our experiences shape our personality and make us unique.

My training in tissue and sub-cellular morphologies provides an endless source of inspiration. My work focuses on pathology and aims to convey aspects of the detailed infrastructure of our bodies, the dialogue we have with nature, as well as the sinister beauty of detrimental transformations.
