My piece ‘Fetch’ is inspired by walks in my local park. Whilst on these walks I play fetch with my dog and collect foliage I find on the ground, which I then take home to draw from in order to create an illustrated log; like a foliage map of the park. ‘Fetch’ reflects the social areas which people use every day, and that we all take for granted. I feel walking a dog in a park is a simple, yet highly social activity which brings you closer to your local community.

This insulation is all about me reconnecting with my father and his side of the family. I have been looking at segments within the fruit that my great-grandad grows in his garden, which led to looking at cells and DNA patterns within this project. The reflections from my pieces remind me of cells and I thought this would be great to explore further. Through the techniques of cold-working and embellishment, I have managed to incorporate the patterns within this process. The patterns have then been emphasised by the lights inside the glass pieces. I selected colours present in the photographs that were sent to me by my Grandad of the Caribbean, his hometown and his local shops as I didn’t want to be inspired by the typical bright colours that everyone normally assumes of Jamacia.

Deeply rooted in my culture and origins, I believe that my work serves as a testament to the beauty of Islamic history in our modern world. Through my art, I aim to bring clarity and focus to my subjects, emphasizing their message, and leaving a lasting impression on those who experience them.

As a designer and craftsman, I am committed to upholding the integrity of my craftsmanship and creating works that are a testament to my skill and passion. Pushing beyond my limits to create pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also intellectually engaging is what drives me. My goal is to challenge myself and to create art that makes a difference in people’s lives.

I have been working with glass for over 30 years, mostly self taught. I do enjoy taking occasional workshops with other glass artists.

Through sculpture and installation, I’ve been having conversations with matter, domestic objects and the spaces we inhabit. We chat about functionality, the possibilities of materials, and giggle about meaning.

When did Realism stop feeling real? Rather than realistic depictions of faces, I’ve come to realise that abstract shapes and a cute aesthetic are more powerful in establishing a connection. Anthropomorphic faces emulate self-awareness to critique the phantasmogoric commodification of art, while shifting the one-directional exhibition paradigm as the artworks look back at us.

Malleability and translucency are continuous themes, as materials evolve to fit the particularities of display methods. Examining and aiming to alter our perception of and interaction with space, the works often manifest as creatures or transporting objects. Material qualities have agency and become metaphors for human emotions, attitudes and consciousness. Creating extensions of body and mind; I aim to breathe joy and humour into the inanimate.
