Working on clear and colour overlaid glass, blown to my design by Potter Morgan, engraving glass no longer needs to be traditional in style or content. Coburger Glaspreis (2006, hon mention prize, exhibited 2014 &2022). Public collections: V&A, Corning USA, Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg, National Museums of Scotland (see website for full list). Regularly teaches short courses at West Dean Chichester, BildWerk Frauenau, Corning Studio and the Escuela at La Granja in Spain. Awarded MBE for services to glass engraving in 2009. Founded the Glass Engraving Network 2013. Selected for almost every British Glass Biennale, including 2024. Teaching at Corning in June 2025.
This year will see my first solo exhibition of fused glass works, exploring the subject of visibility both in the landscape and in human existence. It will run from October 9th at Salthouse Gallery in St Ives, Cornwall.
It is during my first degree in Art History at Concordia University, in Montreal, Quebec, that I developed a particular interesting in mythological iconography and the surrealist movement. I later established my own studio practice and have worked with glass in its kiln glass form for more than a decade after completing a degree in Glass and Ceramics at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, UK. More recently, I completed an MA in Glass at the Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. I have been a resident artist at Loretta Studios and Gallery in Ottawa, Canada for the past 9 years where I work and teach glass casting.
I am currently working on my final exhibition piece for my degree. My concept for this project is The Development in Medicine, and I will be working with inclusions in glass to demonstrate this. I also enjoy creating pieces in Pate de Verre, playing with form and colour. I love the strength and fragility that glass combines as well as the colours and the reactions you can achieve.
