Stacey Poultney

In my current position as a glass specialist, I've dedicated 15 years to working in higher education, refining my expertise in stained and architectural glass, including contemporary glass techniques. I consider myself fortunate to contribute to projects within diverse settings, including world heritage sites, religious buildings, contemporary structures, and national museums. Stained glass served as my initial and most direct way for me to use glass creatively. Simultaneously, my fascination with three-dimensional glass has been a constant passion. As my skills developed through the processing of flat glass for stained glass, I discovered the adaptability of methods like etching, glass painting, silver staining and various contemporary techniques. I firmly believe in the significant importance of recontextualizing stained glass for preserving and rendering the associated skill sets relevant in our time.

My personal practice involves blending my extensive skills in glass with my skills in mechanical engineering, fabrication, and spray painting. Fuelled by a diverse skill set, I maintain an unwavering commitment to precision.

I am hugely inspired by street art, urban decay, soundscapes, brutalist architecture, and industrial aesthetics. I have two distinct approaches for the presentation of my work, primarily for installations within contemporary galleries and exhibition spaces. The other is for smaller-scale work specifically for swift installation and removal within the urban environment.

In the progression of my personal practice, my aim is to create intricate and large-scale glass sculptures. Using my mechanical and engineering skills, I envision fabricating systems that facilitate the transition from static to automated installations.

I welcome opportunities for commissioned work and collaborations. If you’re interested in my work, my availability, or potential collaborations, please feel free to contact me.
