Balance and Harmony

Glasgow is to host to a major exhibition of contemporary glass art next month where “Balance and Harmony” will exhibit in the city’s Trades Hall.

The Scottish Glass Society (SGS) and the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) are promoting this joint exhibition of contemporary art glass created by its members from across the UK.  This joint exhibition will be one that celebrates the collaboration between both national glass societies.  The work displayed in the exhibition features a wide range of techniques including elaborate stained-glass panels, glass casting, glass painting, hot glass techniques including blown and fusing, lamp work and glass engraving

Almost 60 artists are taking part in the exhibition with over 90 exhibits on display.  “Balance and Harmony” is a compelling and profound theme for an exhibition, evoking a sense of equilibrium, serenity, and interconnectedness.  This theme invited artists to explore the interplay between contrasting elements, whether it be through form, colour, texture, or concept, and to express the inherent beauty found in harmonious coexistence.  “Balance and Harmony” also demonstrates the wonderful and amazing contemporary glass that makers of CGS and SGS create and will let the public appreciate and enjoy its magical colours, textures, use of light and variety of techniques.  It is also an opportunity for the public to not only discover their own local glass artists but to encounter work from other SGS and CGS members.

Visitors who come to the exhibition during the Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival can also enjoy a tour of the Trades Hall on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September as an added bonus.

Quote from Gregory Alliss, Chair of the Scottish Glass Society

“SGS is now 45 years old and our annual exhibition is still the premier opportunity for our Members to exhibit their work in a prestigious venue.  We are proud to be open to all and this is reflected in the very high standards of work and craft techniques on show within the exhibition.  Working in collaboration with CGS enhances the visitors experience to this exhibition.”

Quote from Sue Purser Hope, Chair of the Contemporary Glass Society

“This is CGS’s third collaborative exhibition with the Scottish Glass Society.  We are excited to have this wonderful opportunity again to exhibit at the prestigious Trades Hall in Glasgow.  This is an incredible opportunity for our joint membership to show a range of amazing glass work featuring vibrant colours and a range of techniques.  It is also an opportunity to raise the profile of contemporary glass with the general public.”
