CGS launches the Amanda Moriarty’s Memorial Prize for 2024

The Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) is delighted to announce that it is launching the Amanda Moriarty Prize for 2024. Amanda Moriarty, a long serving Board member and Honorary Treasurer of the Contemporary Glass Society, sadly passed away in 2017.  To celebrate her enthusiasm and encouragement of glassmaking, CGS now offers an annual prize in her memory. The prize provides studio space and mentoring for a glass artist member to develop their practice.

For our 2024 prize we are very fortunate to be working with Teign Valley Glass located in Bovey Tracey, Devon who have offered one of our members a fantastic opportunity of

a five day residency in its studio. This will enable the winner to extend their practice with the assistance of Richard Glass and his team. The 5 day period will be available between August and October, 2024.

The aim is that the chosen artist will develop original ideas with the potential to produce a new piece of work or project through to a finished piece. This can be in hot glass, lampworking, cold shop or sand- blasting techniques, or a combination of all.

Teign Valley Glass is situated on the edge of Dartmoor in a beautiful old pottery. The studio team bring together decades of experience to make beautiful works that capture the uniqueness of working with molten glass. Today the studio has strong followings in the UK and USA and continue to exhibit at international trade shows. The studio’s decorative glassware is in some of the best galleries, stores and private collections across the world. (www.teignvalleyglass.com)

Teign Valley provides extensive glass-working facilities within its hot shop and cold working shop alongside the support of a dedicated team to foster individual creative growth and expertise.
