Astronomy and Astral Life Exhibition- Launched on 2nd May 2022

Stop and look up! Here is a chance to look to the stars, to view our universe from beyond Earth’s atmosphere. The study of Astronomy includes objects that we can see with our naked eyes, like the Sun, the Moon, the planets, and the stars but also includes objects we can only see with telescopes or other instruments, like faraway galaxies and tiny particles.

As an Astral being, use your imagination to create something from this world or form outer space. Dare to go where no-one has gone before…..

This was the theme that we asked CGS Member Glass Artists to respond to.

The show was launched on 2nd May – (27th June 2022).

Launched on:2nd May 2022

Title:Gravitational Pull

Description: Gravitational Pull is the attraction that the earth exerts on an object or celestial bodies exert on the Earth. In my piece I aim to express this: Our world is suspended and ‘pulled’ between the gravitational pull of other planets, our sun and other galaxies fixing us in our orbit, but Earth’s gravitational pull also keeps us literally grounded on our planet, sustaining our existence.

Title:Oblique radiant Star no1

Description: Scottish winters have long nights, and during the short days the overcast skies depress me. However, the clear air on a clear night is tingling and pleasant, and I created this piece with the image of stars shining in the sky. The panel is small, but you can feel the depth and the overlapping of colors of the 3D-like colour shadow from dichroic glas, which is the universe spreading out behind it.

Title:Black Hole /or a Dying Star?

Description: An experimental mix of pure graphite powder and a spiral of copper mesh sandwiched and fused between two float glass circles resulted unexpectedly into a piece resembling the appearance of a black hole in space, where even light cannot escape. I feel this piece relates to the question -Are emerging out of the darkness of pandemic ? or are we spiralling deeper into otherness? Only time will tell.

Description: Large collisions in space between black holes and neutron stars create ripples in space-time. When galaxies collide, smaller galaxies may be stripped apart and become part of the larger galaxy bringing destruction, growth, death, and rebirth. Collision is a tribute to the unknown and the quest to crack the mysteries of the universe and our existence.
