‘Small But Magnificent’

This Contemporary Glass Society online selling exhibition: ‘Small but Magnificent’ was launched on 3rd July 2023.

It features 61 CGS Member Artists who responded to the following:

“As the saying goes, “It’s quality not quantity that counts”. So artworks do not need to be large, dominant or take up space to be of value or to inspire. Smallness can be just as magnificent as a huge piece of sculpture.

This online selling exhibition is looking for little pieces of gorgeousness which are no bigger than 15cms in any aspect. They can be jewellery, beads, bowls, small artworks – really anything that is little, beautiful and inspiring. Flaunt that glass – let it be small but magnificent!”

Most work is for sale!  Please contact the artist directly.

Launched on:3rd July 2023

Title:Self Portrait

Description: This is a small stained glass panel utilising the traditional techniques of acid etched glass, high fired paint and silver stain. I thought that using the title 'Self Portrait' was more appropriate than just putting a name to the character. It was inspired by all the amazing gargoyles and characters depicted in stone in churches, cathedrals and buildings throughout Europe.

Title:400 million carats

Description: We quantify in carats a gem’s weight and immediately relate it to its value. It is healthy to reflect on the real value of things, even if they are not worth much financially. Here, in a hyperbole symbolizing the true value of life on earth, a fossil becomes an extraordinary gem. A trilobite, 400 million years after it died and its cast turned into stone, comes back to light, alive.

Title:Tiny White Tafoni Box

Description: This box is part of a series that is a metaphor for kilnformed glass itself. The boxes combine utilitarian shape with artful design elements that reflect my fascination with naturally occurring textures and patterns. They also explore the limits of shape and design, and the physical and chemical properties of this exciting and challenging medium.
