‘Small But Magnificent’

This Contemporary Glass Society online selling exhibition: ‘Small but Magnificent’ was launched on 3rd July 2023.

It features 61 CGS Member Artists who responded to the following:

“As the saying goes, “It’s quality not quantity that counts”. So artworks do not need to be large, dominant or take up space to be of value or to inspire. Smallness can be just as magnificent as a huge piece of sculpture.

This online selling exhibition is looking for little pieces of gorgeousness which are no bigger than 15cms in any aspect. They can be jewellery, beads, bowls, small artworks – really anything that is little, beautiful and inspiring. Flaunt that glass – let it be small but magnificent!”

Most work is for sale!  Please contact the artist directly.

Launched on:3rd July 2023

Title:Self Portrait

Description: This is a small stained glass panel utilising the traditional techniques of acid etched glass, high fired paint and silver stain. I thought that using the title 'Self Portrait' was more appropriate than just putting a name to the character. It was inspired by all the amazing gargoyles and characters depicted in stone in churches, cathedrals and buildings throughout Europe.

Without her hands, her creative tools, she must journey to reconnect with her intuitive Self. In an orchard she eats a pear. This pear represents her creative hunger, and eating it symbolically reconnects her to her wild instinctive Self.

Title:Pride Kitty

Description: Location: Belgrade, Serbia. Born in Turkey.

Made with borosilicate glass and dotting technique. It is unique, like every cat. Now I am living in Serbia but, after I was born and raised in Turkey, the country famous for its cats, I got a lot of inspiration from them. And I chose rainbow colors because each color contains different beauties, experiences, pleasures and notes.

Title:'Manorbier'

Description: This is a lampwork glass lentil bead handmade by me in my studio in West Wales. Surrounded by the sea on all sides, I am constantly inspired by the water and coastline.
Manorbier is a favourite beach of mine, and in this colour combination I tried to capture the essence of a calm summer's morning, with the sun sparkling on the waves.
The bead has been set as a pendant and is ready to wear.

It is a little piece of eye-catching beauty in glass – a colourful celebration of that glorious moment when you open a box of chocolates and decide which will b the first piece of scrumptious that you will choose!.I never use diachronic glass but I had a little store of bits so this was a wonderful opportunity to go totally over the top and indulge myself in using them up.
