‘I interpret landscapes through exploration of material. I focus on rugged coastlines, looking at erosion as a spectacle of discovery and generation of form, revealing a sense of the history and movement of a place. The work is produced using my ‘Lost Ice Process.’ I use salt to sculpt a block of ice as a one-off ephemeral model to take a direct cast from. The textures this provides and the transient nature of the creative process reflects the erosion and sense of time I want to represent in the landscape. There is a roughness from the initial cast that is ground polished and refined to its final finish, revealing the internal structures of the glass and creating facets and flat planes to redefine the essence of the made against the organic surface.’

My practice is informed by the rich heritage of material imitation within the glass making industry. Utilising an extensive and innovative range of kiln-glass techniques, I make objects that are inherently un-glass-like, and instead mimic the physical properties of other materials. In doing so I aim to reassess the traditional perceptions of glass technically, aesthetically, and materially. With a practice that moves deftly between art, design and craft, I make sculptural and interior objects that transcend traditional boundaries, arouse curiosity, and moreover, challenge our comprehension of the material world.

I’m passionate about colours and textures in my work combining traditional enamel, glass and silver to create vibrant, unique and fun pieces. To see a rainbow will always bring a smile to my face. I try to be – Joy by name and Joyful by nature.

Drawing on a huge variety of both mouth-blown, machine-made and fused glass techniques, I juxtapose textures, tones, light and colour to create vivid, dynamic stained glass. All my commissioned work is the result of a tried and tested design process. Occassionaly I offer trainee positions in the studio and short courses.

Since founding TransparentImages.com in 1999, I’ve created over six themed series of kiln-formed glass sculptures, alongside bespoke commissions. Each handcrafted piece—whether a wall panel, triptych, or bowl—offers sculptural depth and distinct character.

Themes include:

Earth’s Elements: Exhibited at St Albans Museum, these panels blend classical representations of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Aether with scientific interpretations via the Periodic Table.

Gemstones & Minerals: Birthstone-inspired panels and bowls, including a commission of 15 amber pieces for a London restaurant.

Botanical Art: Raised, botanically accurate orchids and floral designs.
Planets & Nebulae: Sculptures influenced by NASA imagery—each one-of-a-kind, even within a series.
Natural Art: Birds, butterflies, and insects created for Butterfly World, also available as jewellery and coasters.
Medical & Sci-Art: Intricate works based on anatomy and scientific imagery, first developed during my degree.
Each series reflects a passion for nature, science, and storytelling in glass.
